ACCESS AND MOVEMENT

WALKING AND CYCLING

To encourage residents to walk and cycle, improvements of existing routes to the village centre and to Narborough are being explored. The existing public footpath V64 would be upgraded with a bound surface and suitable lighting where it passes through the site. To the south of the site, this route connects with quieter roads to the village centre, such as Denman Lane, Critchlow Road, Quarry View Close and Duncan Avenue, which are in turn connected by traffic-free links. Improvements to these routes might include: Improved surfacing; Improved street lighting; New or improved crossing points; New local signage and CCTV cameras.

Bridleway V65 north of the site provides a mostly traffic-free alternative route towards Narborough. The scope for upgrading the surface and signage of this route and its connections with the site will be explored.

WALKING DISTANCES

The development would be within walking distance of the village’s key facilities:

  • Huncote Leisure Centre – 8 minutes walking time
  • Huncote Primary School – 4 minutes walking time
  • Village Centre – 10 minutes walking time

VEHICULAR ACCESS

It is proposed that vehicular access for the site would be from a new junction on Forest Road, opposite the Huncote Quarry access. The new residential access road would have footways to each side and has been designed to limit vehicle speeds to around 20mph. The overall design philosophy would be to create a street environment where pedestrians and cyclists feel safe and have priority over motorised vehicles.

Further proposals include extending the 30mph speed limit north of the site access. Additional speed reduction measures along Forest Road, such as improved signs and road markings, are to be discussed with the Highway Authority.

The existing access to Springfield Farm at the south-east corner of the site would be retained as a separate private access to the house. A separate pedestrian access to the new residential development would be provided from Forest Road just to the north of this point.

The provision of a new footway along the east side of Forest Road between Denman Lane and the site is being explored. Any new footway would be 2m wide where feasible.

PARKING

Off-street car parking would be provided for all dwellings within the scheme, at a rate to be agreed with the County and District Councils. It is proposed that a typical dwelling would have 2 parking spaces and every home would be provided with an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging point. Parking for cycles would be provided either within garages, a shed or another secure and sheltered storage facility.
